Associate Conservator (Objects) Autry National Center Los Angeles The Autry National Center seeks an Associate Conservator (Objects) with experience in ethnographic and Native American Cultural Material to manage the treatment and preservation of artifacts within its collection. Reporting to the Chief Conservator, the Associate Conservator supervises an Assistant Conservator and assists in setting and maintaining the policies and procedures by which artifacts are handled and displayed ensuring the standards meet or exceed those of the American Institute for Conservation. Responsibilities: The Associate Conservator oversees the environmental monitoring of the collection and institutes storage changes as necessary. He or she schedules and performs treatments on collection objects and documents those treatments through written reports, photographs, etc. The Associate Conservator supervises work done by interns, volunteers and other staff as appropriate and maintains his/her knowledge of current conservation techniques through research, professional memberships, etc. The Associate Conservator also works with institutional Committees to provide input on the stability and conservation requirements for the relevant artifacts. Qualifications: Graduate degree in Art Conservation from a recognized University program. (Objects Conservation specialization preferred.) Three to five years of experience in the conservation field in artifact conservation including some supervisory experience. Adherence to the Code of Ethics of the American Institute for Conservation. Ability to supervise staff and volunteers and to organize departmental work to meet multiple deadlines. Budget management skills. Excellent written and oral communications.
