The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) is seeking a
graduate or postgraduate Conservation Fellow in the area of paper
conservation for three months (13 weeks) during the summer of 2013.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Conservator.

About The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary: The Library of
The Jewish Theological Seminary holds the foremost collection of
Judaica and Hebraica in the Western Hemisphere, including
manuscripts, rare printed books, periodicals, ephemeral materials,
musical scores, sound recordings, moving images, graphic arts, and
archives. It provides access to subscription databases and to its
digital collections. The JTS Library serves the students and faculty
of the institution in addition to the international community of
scholars in Jewish studies and related areas. Please visit our

Position Summary:

The full-time Conservation Fellow will be responsible for treatment
of paper-based materials in preparation for exhibition. This project
will focus specifically on prints from the Special Collections
Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

    Treat flat items on paper
    Preparation of treatment reports
    Work with librarians and conservators to prepare items for loan

Requirements: Student or recent graduate from a recognized art
conservation training program, with a specialization in paper
conservation. Excellent organizational and teamwork skills,
flexibility and collegiality. Excellent oral and written
communication skills, including demonstrated ability to document
treatments and prepare reports. The interviewed candidates will be
required to show a portfolio of both written and photographic
documentation of previous treatments. The candidate should legally
be able to work in the U.S.

Salary: This is a grant-funded position. Competitive salary
commensurate with experience.
