Collections Care Conservator (maternity cover) Science Museum Part time 3 days per week UKP21,400 - UKP24,000 depending on knowledge and skills 39 week fixed-term contract Reference: CCC-Oct12 The Science Museum is seeking a flexible and enthusiastic Collections Care Conservator with strong preventive skills and experiences to work alongside colleagues at the small to medium object store within Blythe House London. The position is 3 days per week and there is flexibility on which days are chosen. The Collections Care conservator is responsible for all aspects of collections care as agreed with the Conservation and Collections Care Manager, Blythe House. This includes environmental monitoring, Insect Pest Management (IPM) and work alongside collection and estates colleagues to improve the environment where able. You will carry out the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for Blythe House, support and compile the annual and quarterly reports on pest activity and make recommendations to feed into business planning. You will advise upon and ensure that deterioration is minimised through relevant preventive conservation methods and that the collection is preserved to the appropriate high professional standards and statutory requirements. To support the preparation and delivery of loans, exhibitions and collections hazard identification using the Mimsy XG collections database. To provide supervision and general Health and Safety support to our volunteers and conservation interns at Blythe House; object awareness training for colleagues working with the collection and active participation in storage compression and improvement programmes. You will ensure that these tasks are carried out in a safe and secure manner to comply with current legislation and following best professional practice.
