Head of Organic Artifacts Conservation Section Department of Conservation and Scientific Research The British Museum Full time, permanent post UKPUKP36,146 per annum The Department of Conservation and Scientific Research is looking to recruit a Head of the Organic Artifacts Conservation Section to develop and implement, in conjunction with other senior staff members, strategic and operational plans for the department that support its preservation, conservation and research strategies, as well as managing and delivering the operational plan of the section, which will include increased participation in the Museum's commercial and international activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, managing and motivating the staff of the Organic Artifacts Conservation Section in the delivery of long-term and project-based activity required to meet the aims and programmes of the Museum. A key responsibility will be to ensure high standards of organic materials conservation are maintained and that the section continues to meet the ethical standards of the Museum and broader conservation profession. The role will involve maintaining and further developing the section's reputation as a centre of excellence for the conservation of organic materials, both nationally and internationally, and developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners. In addition to this, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing the relocation of the section to the new World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre, as well as playing a pivotal role in the move of the organic collections to stores in this new facility. The successful candidate will hold a recognised professional conservation qualification to degree level or equivalent and be an expert in the field of organic materials conservation, both nationally and internationally. As well as relevant practical organic materials conservation experience, experience of leading, motivating and managing a team of professionals is essential, as are demonstrable planning, prioritisation and project management skills.
