Conservator of Organic Materials University of Cambridge Museums (UCM) Full Time One year in the first instance Salary range UKP23,811 - UKP26,779 University of Cambridge Museums (UCM) is one of only 16 museum services nationally to secure Major Partnership Funding from the Arts Council England (ACE). The Connecting Collections programme (CC) will transform access to the exceptional collections and research resources of the eight University of Cambridge Museums (UCM). Excellence in collections care and interpretation, substantial digital innovation, high-profile exhibitions, imaginative learning programmes and effective marketing across the University museums and with wider cultural partners will reach and benefit audiences locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Connecting Collections: Care and Conservation (CCCC) comprises a key part of the wider programme, and will provide conservation and collection care support across UCM. The Conservator of Organic Materials will play a vital role in delivering the project, working as part of a small but developing team. In the first instance, the Conservator will be based in the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. The Conservator will carry out practical conservation and collection care projects across UCM, supervise the work of external conservation contractors, interns and volunteers and advise the CCCC team about conservation priorities to inform resource allocation and priorities. S/he will contribute to increased closer working across UCM especially with collections care staff of all the museums and existing conservators in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Hamilton Kerr Institute, Polar Museum and Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences. The post requires demonstrable experience in conservation of museum objects and specimens made from organic materials, highly effective communication and influencing skills and the ability to balance demands and priorities across different museums. Candidates should have a recognised qualification in conservation or equivalent experience and should be PACR accredited or working towards accreditation.
