Subject: Lecture on grant funding for cultural heritage collections
Workshop Grant Funding for Collection Digitization and Preservation Library of Michigan, Lansing Nov. 14, 2012 12:30-4pm (The program will begin at 1pm The Michigan Collections Network is a newly forming network interested in preserving and providing access to library and archival print and digital collections. One of the challenges and opportunities with this work is funding for these project. This first event of the Michigan Collections Network will inform participants about funding options available and hear the experience of three libraries as they were awarded preservation and digitization grants. Timothy Chester, director emeritus of the Grand Rapids Public Museum will speak on grant funding for cultural heritage collections. A panel of Michigan library staff will speak on three recent preservation and digitization grant funded project: Frank Boles of Central Michigan University on a newspaper digitization grant, Alice Cruz of Orion Township Public Library on an IMLS preservation grant for artifacts, and Stacy Nowicki of Kalamazoo College on 2 NEH preservation grants. Brief tours of the Library of Michigan's conservation and digitization areas will be available.
