"Update: Investigation of deterioration of interior finishes of San Sebastian Basilica, Manila" Christine Leggio, Paint Conservator The presentation will be held at Superstructures 32 Avenue of the Americas 13th Floor, New York, NY (One block south of Canal Street) Wed, October 17, 2012 6-8pm EST Bakas Pilipinas <URL:http://www.bakaspilipinas.org> is a New York-based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to help preserve historic architecture and sites in the Philippines. The group has adopted the restoration of San Sebastian Basilica in Manila as its first demonstration project. Bakas Pilipinas Inc. invites you to a presentation on exciting new research about the deterioration of the historic interior finishes of San Sebastian Basilica, a Philippine National Landmark. Built in 1891, San Sebastian Basilica is the only all-metal church in the country and one of a few in Asia. The church interior is painted to simulate stone. Corroding metal threatens the future of the trompe l'oeil interior finishes. The presentation, featuring the work of Christine Leggio, Paint Conservator, will include an update on the investigation phase of the restoration project. Ticket proceeds will fund a research project to determine how the restoration may be of benefit to the community surrounding the Basilica. Tickets are $25; ($10 for students). Ticket amounts are tax deductible. Seating is limited.
