Conservator (Textiles) Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC), Singapore The National Heritage Board (NHB) preserves, presents and promotes the cultural heritage of Singapore. Our vision is to make heritage an enriching part of everyone's life. The Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC) is a purpose-built facility for the storage and conservation of all artefacts under the care of the National Heritage Board (NHB) of Singapore. We are now seeking candidates for the Conservator (Textiles) position. Job Description: The main responsibilities are: Undertake examination, assess conservation requirements, treatment and documentation of Textiles from the NHB collection; Extensive practical work on variety of Textiles; Experiences in mounting and display of a variety of Textiles; Participation in HCC's and NHB's public consultation and education activities; Manages and/or implements preventive conservation projects, including environmental monitoring and pest and mould management relating to collections care in storage, on loan and on display; Performs scientific examination and tests; Participate in planning teams for exhibition and gallery development; and Close supervision and coaching of direct or indirect subordinate(s). Brief Description of Textile- Based Collection Involved: At HCC, you will be presented with the opportunity to conserve a diverse collection of both traditional and contemporary textile-based Collection from Southeast Asia and Asia. Included are accessories, costumes, garments and furnishings as well as contemporary artworks made of textiles. The Collection is mostly presented in exhibitions at the NHB's Museums such as the National Museum of Singapore, Asian Civilisations Museum, Peranakan Museum and Singapore Art Museum. Work Location and Arrangement: The Conservator shall mostly be based at HCC at 32 Jurong Port Road. The conservator shall be working in the Textiles Conservation team in HCC. Currently the textile conservation section has 4 other conservation staff. The Centre encourages cross disciplinary interaction hence the Textiles Conservators are encouraged to leverage on the other areas of expertise that are currently in HCC to enhance the conservation decision-making process. Qualifications and Other Requirements Candidate should have a recognized first degree (bachelor's or honours) or a Masters degree in Conservation, with ideally 8 years or more of relevant practical experience in Textiles Conservation. Familiarity and experienced with Asian textile materials will be advantageous.
