Part time conservation technician Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a part-time Conservation Technician to perform support duties, assist with care of the collections in galleries, and assisting with basic conservation treatment and photo-documentation in both the Paintings and Objects Labs under the conservators' supervision. This position is part-time at an hourly rate, four days per week, and is tailored for those seeking pre-program experience for the purposes of entering a graduate conservation program. Other responsibilities include weekly dusting of artwork in the museum galleries, monitoring environmental data loggers and insect traps, re-housing fine arts objects for long-term storage, general cleaning and organization of the conservation labs, and updating of conservation reports and files. We are committed to offering the position to an individual who is actively seeking to enter the field of conservation. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree with a background in art history, studio art, science or a related field, and be preparing for a graduate program. Must be familiar with PC computers and basic digital photography. Must have strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills, strong writing skills, and be able to work independently and as part of a team while closely following instruction. Other desirable qualifications include: knowledge of fine art materials and techniques; laboratory and shop tools; solvent handling; advanced photography editing using Adobe Photoshop; box making; familiarity with microscopes.
