Collections Officer (Object Conservator)
Post 028664

Fixed term appointment: until 31 March 2015

    Salary: Bristol Grade 10: UKP25,472 - UKP28,636

Based at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, Queens' Road, Bristol
    BS8 1RL

The collections are divided into nine curatorial sections
(Public History, Industrial and Maritime History, World
Cultures, Archaeology, Geology, Biology, Fine Art, Applied Art
and Eastern Art). In addition to these collections (which are
the largest in the South West and number over 1.75 million
items) the service has just taken on responsibility for the
collections formerly of the British Empire and Commonwealth
Museum and it is likely that conservation work on this
collection may be a priority. This collection comprises
approximately 10,000 objects dating from about 1900 to 2000, and
covering a wide range of materials including wood, pottery,
feather, basketry, animal hide and hair, silk, cotton, metals
    and plastics

The successful candidate will be expected to have a recognised
conservation qualification or equivalent, considerable existing
museum conservation experience and expertise along with drive
and ambition to promote their subject. Income generation
through taking on external work through the museum may also be
    required.

Collections Officer (Paper Conservator)
Post 028642

    Fixed term appointment: 1 August, 2012 - 31 July, 2013

    Salary: Bristol Grade 10: UKP25,472 - UKP28,636

Based at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, Queens' Road, Bristol
    BS8 1RL

The Museum and Art Gallery collections are divided into nine
curatorial sections (Public History, Industrial and Maritime
History, World Cultures, Archaeology, Geology, Biology, Fine
Art, Applied Art and Eastern Art). In addition to these
collections the service has just taken on responsibility for the
collections formerly of the British Empire and Commonwealth
Museum. There are paper items across the majority of the
collections including some 16,000 works on paper in the Fine Art
collection. Members of the conservation department are involved
in delivering the lively exhibition programme across several
    museum sites.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a recognised
conservation qualification or equivalent, considerable existing
museum conservation experience and expertise along with drive
and ambition to promote their subject. The museum offers
conservation services to external clients and this is an
important element of the role. You will be required to assess
and complete external work to agreed estimates.
