Do you want to work in Auckland, the largest Pacific city in the
world?  Auckland Libraries is the largest library group in
Australasia with 55 library branches and 4 mobile libraries across
the Auckland region. Auckland Libraries, Regional Heritage and
Research unit has an exciting opportunity for a qualified Book
Conservator.

As a Book Conservator, you will undertake conservation treatment and
introduce preventive conservation measures for the long term
preservation of early bound volumes of the New Zealand Herald.

You will be responsible for carrying out conservation work on bound
volumes of the New Zealand Herald, our newspaper of record. As
project conservator, you will undertake a condition survey of 193
volumes dated 1863 to 1919; carry out conservation treatment on
selected volumes and measure up and organise the making of archival
boxes. This role will give you the opportunity to help us to
preserve these artefacts of New Zealand history based at Auckland
Libraries.

You will be based in the Preservation Unit at the Central City
Library located in Auckland's CBD. You will be part of a team of
skilled library professionals and would have the support of an
expert team.

This position is for a fixed term contract from 9 months to one year
depending on whether you want to work full time or part time.

A recognised qualification in conservation of cultural materials
specialising in books is essential to this role. Having a membership
of a professional body such as the New Zealand Conservators of
Cultural Materials, AICCM, ICON, American Institute of Conservation
is an advantage.

Impress us with your experience working to international
preservation standards. Our preferred candidate is someone with
minimum of 2 years' experience in conservation of cultural materials
post-graduation. You must have proven experience in the field with
both preventive conservation and conservation treatment. Your
extensive experience in and understanding of, documentary heritage
conservation and preservation practice will help you succeed in this
role.
