Paper conservator Kent County Council Libraries Registration and Archives Conservation Officer - 37 hours per week Starting salary UKP20,466, with progression through Total Contribution Related Pay to UKP23,284 per annum We're looking for a trained and experienced paper conservator to join the team at the new Kent History and Library Centre on a short term basis covering maternity leave. Kent's archive collections are some of the richest in the country. The new building which opened in April, 2012 houses 12kms of fantastic historic material dating back to 699 AD in a wealth of different formats You'll obviously have a passion for conserving unique historic documents but you will also need to be committed to making these documents accessible to more people in Kent especially from non-traditional groups. You will undertake conservation treatment on a wide range of archival materials and demonstrate a knowledge of a variety of treatments, you will also complete all paperwork documenting conservation treatments and prepare progress reports as necessary. Other duties will include supervising other staff and volunteers undertaking basic conservation and preservation work such as repackaging. Knowledge of the different methods for producing surrogates for preservation purposes and the various issues involved, particularly for digital copies, would be useful.
