Fixed Term Contract; 18 months in duration (Full time)

Salary: GBP 24,246 per annum

The British Museum is currently undergoing construction of the World
Conservation and Exhibitions Centre which will provide world class
facilities for visitors and researchers taking conservation,
scientific research and collection management to a new level of
excellence. The Department of Conservation and Scientific Research
are seeking a co-ordinator to assist in the preparation of the move
of the department to the new studios and laboratories in the centre.

You will assist with ensuring that all equipment, departmental
records, files and archives and reference and sample materials are
suitably catalogued and housed and that facilities are specified in
the new spaces to enable an efficient transfer of identified records
and resources to the new centre. The role will involve assessing the
full extent of equipment and departmental holdings to be transferred
and identifying suitable storage provision for these records and
resources. You will be responsible for assisting in identifying a
suitable system to record and archive CSR reference and sample
collections. Further to this, you will be responsible for
establishing both the resources needed for the transfer of existing
paper and digital records into the new digital cataloguing system as
well as the digitization and index of technical image libraries and
other departmental holdings into a format suitable for importation
into the database.

Required Skills:

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in conservation,
science or archaeology. Proven experience with the Microsoft
applications, particularly Access and Excel is essential, as is
experience of data entry ensuring a high degree of accuracy of
information. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work
as part of a team is also a fundamental aspect of the role.
Experience in using a database and working with Museum collections
is desirable but not essential.
