Collections Care Specialist Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Under the general direction of the Collections Manager, the Collections Care Specialist will perform duties related to the care of the collections. This is a full-time term position, scheduled to end on June 30, 2013; the position may be renewed each July 1st. Essential Functions: Transport and supervise the movement of art objects. Assist with the loading and unloading of art shipments. Assist with gallery and exhibition installations. Participate in cleaning program and perform routine dusting and cleaning of art objects. Label art objects. Help monitor environmental conditions and condition of art objects in exhibition and storage areas. Assist with special packing needs of art objects. Perform data entry as required in collections management database, including recording of object movements. Assist in daily operations of Objects Conservation Laboratory; duties include: ordering, stocking and organizing lab spaces and supplies, and maintaining chemical inventory and safety procedures and guidelines. Assist conservators on projects, object documentation, handling and movement. Perform condition reporting of discrete collections of 3-dimensional objects. May be requested to participate in courier trips. Support operational activity at offsite facility one or more days per week as instructed; duties include: prepare artwork for shipment and for visiting curatorial and conservation staff, assist facility managers in monitoring conditions, assist in annual audit of collections. Assist in the design and execution of mounts for art objects on display and specialized supports in storage. Assist in photographic setups involving art objects. Keep abreast of latest developments in the field through professional publications, courses and conferences. Qualifications: Applicants must have practical experience in art handling in a museum environment. General knowledge of conservation and conservation materials. General knowledge of digital photography and computer literacy. Experience in conservation laboratory preferred. Application materials are being accepted immediately.
