Call for Papers
ICON Conference 2013
"Positive Futures in an Uncertain World in partnership"

with the University of Glasgow.

ICON Archaeology Group is holding two half day sessions at the ICON
Conference 2013, Glasgow.

Session 1
"10 things I was never told at university"

This session will cover the discrepancies between training and
the reality of working in the 21st Century both for recent
graduates and for conservators where their role has shifted and
requires new skills and thinking. Areas include business skills,
communication skills, outreach, management of volunteers and the
change of focus away from specialist bench work to collections
    care of entire collections.

Session 2
"Archaeological Conservation Guidelines: Fit for the 21st Century?"

The ICON AG 2012-2016 action plan includes the review of our
'Excavated Artefacts and Conservation' guidelines. The
conference offers a good opportunity to discuss and review both
these guidelines and others and help inform their revision. The
session will combine talks and group discussions/workshop in a
smaller more informal setting so that we can examine in detail
archaeological conservation in the commercial sector.

Papers are expected to last for approximately 20 minutes although
this could be slightly shorter for the less formal discussion in
session 2.

Please send abstracts, maximum 300, words by 10 September 2012 to
beth.werrett<-at->wiltshire<.>gov<.>uk

Please include the names, addresses and email addresses of all
authors and indicate the author for correspondence.

Papers will be selected by 10 October 2012.

Booking opens 1 October 2012.

The deadline for the submission of papers to a special conference
issue of the journal is 28 February 2013.

Conference papers will not be published but authors are invited to
submit their papers for consideration for publication in the Spring
2014 issue of the Journal of the Institute of Conservation. Further
information will be available on the website:
