Subject: Symposium on Asian lacquer
Call for papers Asian Lacquer International Symposium Buffalo, New York 20-24 May 2013 The Asian Lacquer International Symposium will be held in Buffalo, New York, USA, in May 2013 and is being organized by the State University of New York College at Buffalo (Buffalo State) Art Conservation and Design Departments and the Burchfield Penney Art Center. The conference will be highly multidisciplinary, exploring all aspects of Asian lacquers including the art and craft of working with lacquers, history, conservation, chemistry, and material properties of urushi. The format will be a mix of demonstrations, lectures and poster presentations. Submissions of themed presentations on all aspects of Asian lacquer are welcome, including: Working practices of artists Traditional and modern methodology Art history Examination Conservation treatment Scientific analysis Challenges of economic supply The deadline for submission is 2 January 2013. Please send abstracts for your presentations including the following: Title Author(s) name(s) and contact info. Indicate choice of whether an oral presentation or poster is preferred An abstract of no more than 350 words outlining the purpose, methodology, findings, and conclusions Artists may submit 2 JPEG or TIFF images of their work, each under 2 MB. After the conference, papers based upon oral presentations will be submitted for peer-review and publication in 'symposium papers'.
