Senior Conservator - Textiles Royal Ontario Museum Fixed term assignment full time, 8 months The Royal Ontario Museum is seeking a skilled and experienced conservator to run the museum's textile conservation lab within a multi-disciplinary conservation team for an 8 month fixed term assignment. The ROM holds significant collections of historic textiles and costumes, ancient to modern, from all parts of the globe. Conservation care of the textile and costume collections is program driven and includes conservation assessment and treatment, documentation, and work with curators and collections technicians on preventive conservation measures. The focus of this contract will involve preparing objects (complex and simple treatments) for upcoming rotations of textiles in galleries in the Michael Lee Chin Crystal and loans. Responsibilities include the execution and documentation of conservation assessments which may include scientific examination, and the completion of treatments necessary to stabilize artifacts and preparation for display. Participation in Museum activities, public consultation, education and the training of interns may be required. Qualifications: Master's degree in Conservation. A minimum of eight years of experience in textiles conservation, with at least five years in a museum setting OR an acceptable equivalent in education and experience.
