Furniture Conservator Victoria and Albert Museum, London UKP24,906 - UKP29,936 p.a. The V&A is seeking a full-time Furniture Conservator who will undertake work on a wide range of objects from the Furniture and Asian Collections and the V&A Museum of Childhood, in addition to contributing to the V&A's exhibition and development programmes. Work will include 'brown' furniture, clocks, decorative surfaces, modern materials, gilded objects, organic materials e.g. ivory, leather and tortoiseshell as well as architectural models, period rooms and toys. The successful candidate will have relevant experience gained working in a museum conservation workshop or a private conservation practice, in addition to having completed a recognised conservation training programme. Cabinet-making or related woodworking experience and competence with woodworking machinery are required. The ability to be able to approach the conservation of a wide variety of other materials with confidence and to quickly and accurately assess condition, estimate treatment times, prepare treatment proposals, deliver high quality conservation treatments and documentation, often to tight deadlines are also essential. Experience with wood identification and/or microscopy is desirable. You will be highly self-motivated and able to organise your own workload with the minimum of supervision and be able to work independently or as part of a team. You will have good verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with SLR digital photography, as well as experience with IT programmes such as Word, Excel and Photoshop are required.
