Introduction to Feather Conservation A two-day workshop The British Museum 24-25 October 2012 The British Museum is hosting a two-day workshop on the conservation of feathers in the studios of the Organic Artefacts Section, Department of Conservation and Science on 24-25 October 2012. The workshop will be led by Allyson Rae who has extensive experience in the conservation of artefacts incorporating feathers. Now a freelance conservator, she was Head of Organic Artefacts Conservation at the British Museum until 2006. Encompassing both theoretical and practical sessions, the workshop will cover the structure and nature of feathers, their causes of deterioration and principles and practice for non-interventive and basic interventive options (soil removal, reshaping, repair techniques). Participants are encouraged to bring images of feathered objects to the workshop for discussion. There will be a an opportunity to discuss scientific research priorities with colleagues from the British Museum. The cost of the 2 day workshop is UKP200 and includes materials, hand-outs, refreshments and lunches. There are two student places at a reduced fee of UKP150 which will be allocated once the 10 full-fee places have been filled. A total of 12 places are available.
