The New Brunswick Museum (NBM) is the oldest continuing museum in
Canada. It is the major provincial repository for property relating
to the natural, human and cultural heritage of New Brunswick.  The
Conservation Section is looking for interested applicants to fill
the position of Post-graduate Paper Conservation Intern to work on
the conservation treatment of an important series of oversized mural
cartoons (1941-42) by Canadian artist Miller Gore Britain. In
addition, the intern will have an important role in raising the
public profile of conservation at the NBM.

The ideal candidate should have previous conservation treatment
experience and a proven ability to work methodically and
consistently in treating delicate materials. In addition, the
incumbent should be able to work independently and have good
judgement so as to know when to consult their supervisor. The
candidate should have strong interpersonal, organizational, and
communication skills and be willing to speak publicly. Experience in
museum interpretation is considered an asset.

The incumbent's duties will include training in and practice of
paper conservation treatment and handling methods for oversized
drawings. The intern will work independently with the supervision
and the collaboration of the NBM Conservation staff. In addition,
the intern is required to document all facets of the conservation
treatment according to conservation standards. Further, the intern's
treatment work will take place in the public eye; the intern will be
expected to speak publicly about his/her progress.

Candidates must possess a certificate/degree from a recognized
conservation training program and have conservation treatment
experience. An interest in paper conservation and a willingness to
speak publicly is required. Computer skills should include Microsoft
Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Photoshop; experiences
in using excel and TMS databases are considered an asset.
Familiarity with digital photography is an asset. WHMIS training and
a criminal records check are required. The New Brunswick Museum is
