Sculpture Conservator Whitney Museum of American Art The Whitney Museum of American Art seeks a sculpture conservator for our Collections Documentation Initiative. The Collection Documentation Initiative (CDI) is a project focused on cataloguing, researching, photographing, and conducting conservation assessments of works of art in the Whitney Museum's permanent collection. The first phase of the project concentrated on works of art on paper. The sculpture portion of the second phase will begin in November 2012. The conservator will work alongside staff from other departments as we survey and document our entire collection of sculptures. The project will take place at the museum's storage facility in Manhattan. Duties will include: creating a full description of each sculpture with regard to the materials of its fabrication, generating a condition report of its current state, and working with the cataloguer to ensure that object-specific information is accurate, as well as advising on proper handling and housing of specific works. Requirements: M.A. in Art Conservation, or equivalent training with a specialization in sculpture or objects conservation; knowledge of current standards of practice and methodology for the examination of sculpture; familiarity with and interest in 20th and 21st century artists' materials and techniques; demonstrated organizational and writing skills; familiarity with the TMS collection management system; and the ability to develop and maintain collegial and collaborative relationships with other project staff.
