The University of Lincoln invites applications for their AHRC
Professional Preparation Masters Studentships in Conservation.

The University of Lincoln are seeking applications from highly
qualified graduates wishing to undertake a unique Masters programme
aligned to commercial conservation practices.

These Professional Preparation Master Studentships are available
from the University of Lincoln's AHRC Block Grant Partnership (BGP)
award, won in collaboration with the University of Northampton. In
awarding both institutions the AHRC recognises that we provide our
postgraduates with a high level of expertise and training to ensure
that the relationship with professional practice is at the heart of
that experience.

Eligibility. Candidates should be completing, or have already
completed, a degree to a high level in Conservation or an allied

Fees. The full-time maintenance stipend level for 2012/13 for the
Professional Preparation Master's Competition maintenance rates are
expected to be in the region of UKP8,845 p.a.

Programme of Study. The successful applicant would undertake the MA
in the Conservation of Historic Objects at the University of
Lincoln, whilst working alongside Crick Smith Conservation, the
commercial arm of the subject area.

Students will have the opportunity to relate their studies directly
to the needs of professional conservation practices and particularly
historic decoration, historic interiors, on site conservation
methods, techniques and processes.

Skills Needed. The applicant will need to bring the following skills
and attributes:

    A head for heights/working on scaffold

    Excellent colour vision

    Good verbal communication, teamwork and presentation skills

    Good documentation skills, including record drawing and

    photography

    Excellent writing skills, research skills to produce treatment
    reports and other papers

    Independent learner with enquiring mind and enthusiasm for their
    subject

Future Prospects. This scheme will offer the opportunity to fully
explore the relationship with the commercial conservation industries
and exploit the potential for professional employment or knowledge
transfer options for industry-led doctoral study.
