Preventive Conservation Adviser - Skills and Projects
The National Trust
London SW1

UKP41,000 - UKP44,000 per annum plus benefits
Ref: IRC720

A preventive conservation specialist, you'll be our authority on
training and skills development for our 550 house staff, and on
safeguarding interiors and collections during building projects and
emergency salvage. We want you to share your expertise with
colleagues across the organisation, with the Trust's supporters and
with your peers in museums and galleries. As one of our national
specialists, you'll have a good understanding of our aims and
objectives and a desire to enthuse our people about conservation.
You'll also have the knowledge to identify the best methods for
developing conservation skills, whether that's through delivering
training programmes, supporting apprenticeships and internships,
planning projects or working with external partners.

Adding an important new dimension to our conservation work, you'll
encourage creative ways of bringing collections and historic
interiors to life, helping everyone enjoy the beauty and interest
which works of art, social history collections and decorative
interiors provide.

This role is based with the national specialist team in London SW1
but, to facilitate travel and access to our properties, we can be
flexible about office location or home-working. We are aware of the
scope of this role and depth of expertise required, so we're open to
applications for part-time working/job share between two
appropriately qualified and experienced conservators. You will be
expected to travel for three days per week on average and overnight
stays may also be required. We will pay you a mileage allowance or
offer a lease car, subject to total annual mileage.

About you: You've a passion for, and a wide-ranging knowledge of
preventive conservation, blending traditional and historic practice
with current innovation and conservation science. You have
particular experience of training and skills development, and
protection of historic interiors and collections during building
works and emergency salvage. Confident and charismatic, you enjoy
sharing your knowledge and insight with a variety of audiences, both
internally through training programmes and workshops, and externally
through lectures and publications. And with an established network
of contacts, you'll have access to best practice around the globe.
