Subject: Fellowship at National Gallery of Denmark
Samuel H. Kress Conservation Fellowship Paintings Conservation National Gallery of Denmark The National Gallery of Denmark is offering a Samuel H. Kress Conservation Fellowship, administered by the Foundation of the American Institute of Conservation, for the academic year 2012-2013. The fellowship will comprise the conservation and research of five flower paintings by Elias van den Broeck (Antwerp 1649/50 - Amsterdam 1708). Fellowships are limited to graduates of graduate conservation programs in the U.S. and Canada, or to U.S. citizens graduating from graduate-level conservation programs abroad. Fellows should have completed a masters-level degree in conservation prior to beginning the Fellowship. In conjunction with the planning of a large Flower Exhibition in our gallery in 2013 a team of conservators, scientists and art historians are carrying through a research project on the museum's holdings of Baroque floral paintings. Many of these artworks have not previously been restored, and have never been submitted to technical and art historical research. The Conservation Fellow will be part of this team of conservators and researchers, and will have the opportunity to carry through individual research on a hitherto untouched material from the gallery's rich collection of 17th-century artworks. The Fellow will work in the Conservation Department in close collaboration with Centre for Art Technological Studies and Conservation, CATS, a newly founded centre of research in technical art history within our gallery. The Conservation Department currently includes 6 painting conservators, 5 paper conservators, 1 sculpture conservator, 1 PhD student in paintings conservation and 3 international interns. During the fellowship period we anticipate that research will not only include paintings from the National Gallery of Denmark but that the successful applicant would use a travel allowance to examine pictures that relate to the area of research in other European institutions relevant for the project. Please submit the following materials in English: A motivation letter (maximum 1 page, 1500 characters) in which the applicant explains his/her academic and personal reasons for applying for the fellowship, copies of undergraduate and graduate courses of academic study, a brief curriculum vitae with biographical information (including language skills, and any publications), current and permanent address, and telephone numbers; a copy of the student's previous academic record (courses) and diplomas; two (2) letters of recommendation from conservation professionals familiar with the candidate's work and including the referee's full address and forwarded by separate e-mail to the address below. Accepted applicants must provide a certificate of good conduct issued by the local police authorities. Internships/fellowships are given without regard to age, sex, nationality, or race. Applications must be received by June 11, 2012. Applications should be sent electronically as PDF attachments to cats-cons<-at->smk<.>dk For further information on the fellowship project please contact: Dr. Jorgen Wadum Keeper of Conservation and Director CATS Statens Museum for Kunst / National Gallery of Denmark Solvgade 48-50 1307 Copenhagen K Denmark +45 25597808 +45 33748450 j.wadum<-at->smk<.>dk *** Conservation DistList Instance 26:1 Distributed: Thursday, May 24, 2012 Message Id: cdl-26-1-019 ***Received on Tuesday, 15 May, 2012
