Subject: Workshop low fired ceramics
The Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies is hosting the workshop "Preservation and Mending of Low-Fired Ceramics" on June 14-16, 2012. The class will be offered on the campus of Beloit College, Beloit Wisconsin. The tuition is $875 and includes lodging and most meals. Partial scholarships may be available. The workshop is being taught by Michele Greenan, Director of Archaeology at the Indiana State Museum, and Gaby Kienitz, Head Conservator at the Indiana State Museum. This hands-on workshop focuses on the care and potential treatment of low-fired ceramic vessels and vessel portions. Topics include 'best practice' solutions in the world of conservation; the process of assessing material, preparing solutions, consolidating, and adhering low-fired ceramic shards; and releasing joins and making plaster fill.
