Junior Frames Conservator Rijksmuseum Amsterdam 32 hours per week The Rijksmuseum is the museum of the Netherlands. Its collection includes 1.1 million works of art and objects from and about the Netherlands from the Middle Ages up to and including the 20th century. Even while the main building is under renovation, The Masterpieces--400 of the most famous 17th century works--are currently on display in the Philips Wing. In this modest setting, the Rijksmuseum draws about 900,000 visitors each year. In 2013, the new Rijksmuseum <URL:http://www.rijksmuseum.nl/verbouwing?lang=en> will open its doors, presenting to the public a stunning building with an unexpected design and interior setting, wonderful exhibitions, festive events and an array of facilities for young and old. The Rijksmuseum has a staff of 400. The Paintings Conservation Studio of the Conservation Department of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam seeks a Junior Frames Conservator for 32 hours per week as soon as possible Job Description: The purpose of the position is to keep art objects in a good condition or to restore them to a good condition, efficiently and effectively. The junior conservator will conserve and restore picture frames. The frame conservation studio is part of and always works in close cooperation with the paintings conservation studio. The main focus will be to prepare art works for the reopening of the Rijksmuseum after renovation in the spring of 2012. The main tasks and duties of the candidate are: To assist in monitoring the physical condition of the frames collection in order to recognize (possible) decay in a timely manner and to take remedial action accordingly; To perform conservation and restoration projects--including research of frames, framing, construction and finishes - according to given instructions; To contribute to the development of methods and research for the conservation and restoration of frames, including related gilding, polychromic, veneer and other finishes. To participate in projects, including meetings, execution of the work and related administration Requirements An academic degree in conservation in frame conservation or related disciplines- minimum of one year experience in the conservation and restoration of picture frames from a variety of style periods Experience in performing restorations including documentation of processes and results Knowledge of modern methods and materials Command of the Dutch language is preferred but not necessary Familiarity with MS Office and Collection Management Systems Profile: Integrity in restoration ethics Social and communicative skills Analytical and problem solving Active involvement in professional development Flexible and service oriented Terms and conditions of employment: The position is until 31 May 2013. The salary for this maximum category 9 position will range from a minimum of Euro 2,517 up to a maximum of EUR 3,295 monthly (gross) for a full-time working week (36 hours/week), depending on education, training and experience, and is exclusive of holiday allowance (8%) and end-of-year bonus.
