Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship in Paintings Conservation Art Institute of Chicago The Art Institute of Chicago is offering an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship in Paintings Conservation commencing in the late summer or early fall. The Fellowship will allow the individual to gain experience in all aspects of paintings conservation while working in a large museum setting. Under the supervision of a an experienced staff of conservators, the Fellow will carry out major and minor treatments, examine and document paintings using a range of imaging techniques including, normal and UV light imaging, x-radiography, IR Reflectography, transmitted IR, image assembly and registration, and will have the opportunity to conduct research, and be involved in a range of preventive conservation, activities. The Art Institute provides a well equipped Paintings Conservation facility with an integrated Conservation Science laboratory furnished with state of the art analytical instruments. Conservators across the museum specializing in conservation of paintings, objects, works on paper, photographs, textiles and books work in close collaboration with Scientists and Curators on all aspect of collections care. Among many significant projects under way, the AIC is working on a scholarly catalog of the its Impressionist paintings, an undertaking that combines the expertise of Curators, Conservators, Scientists, and the staffs of the Imaging, IT and Publication departments. An on line prototype for the catalog that includes two works by Monet and one by Renoir, was published on the AIC web site at the end of 2011. Publication of the full Renoir and Monet volumes is due in 2013-14. A successful candidate will have a master's degree in Painting Conservation. Must have relevant experience range of treatment. Examination experience. Must be skilled in treatment, examination, documentation, research and preventive conservation. The deadline for submission of applications is June 30, 2012.
