Subject: Call for papers--Symposium on tapestry conservation
Call for Papers "A Woven Alliance: Tapestry Yesterday, Today and for Tomorrow" Edinburgh 21 September 2012 The Institute of Conservation (Icon) Textile Group invites abstracts for papers and posters for the Symposium "A Woven Alliance: tapestry yesterday, today and for tomorrow which will be held on 21 September 2012 in Edinburgh. The symposium will be held at the Dovecot Tapestry Studios and coincides with the exhibition "Dovecot 1912 - 2012: 100 years of Contemporary Tapestry". The symposium will reflect the creative, historical, technical, conservation and/or scientific partnerships and collaborations that take place when working on a tapestry project. We are particularly interested in papers which discuss the decision making process when a tapestry project is undertaken and how this shapes or influences the conservation approach and treatment; whether decisions are based on the input from the designer/weaver, the tapestry's historic importance, display and interpretation, or timing and budget. Papers would also be welcome on collaborative working in all aspects of tapestries and their conservation, whether between scientist and conservator, or volunteer and curator, and how each influences the other. Innovation and research are other areas of interest. Please email abstracts of no more than 250 words by 8 June 2012 to Lynn McClean <l.mcclean<-at->nms<.>ac<.>uk> Abstracts should include the purpose or aim of the project, the methodology, the principle findings and a conclusion. Please ensure the names, addresses and contact details of all authors are included, and indicate who the main contact and speaker(s) will be.
