Research Fellowship for postgraduate or postdoctoral students Museum Conservation Institute 10-weeks - 1 Year Applications are invited for a post-doctoral or a post-graduate position at the mass spectrometry and proteomics laboratory at the Smithsonian's Museum Conservation Institute. The aim of the laboratory is to develop mass spectrometry and proteomics technologies relevant to museums' specimens. Projects include but are not limited to: Proteomics, biological dating using various MS techniques such as amino acid racemization; analysis of insoluble proteinaceous or polymeric materials; analysis of paints, inks, etc. using surface ionization techniques; as well as development of portable separation-mass spectrometry devices for onsite chemical/biological analysis. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. or Master's degree in the area of separation, microfabrication, mass spectrometry, or proteomics. Working experience with Thermo LTQ Orbitrap Veloes, ABI Qstar and 4700 TOF/TOF, as well as with capillary electrophoresis and nano-LC is highly desirable. The position is for one year, with a possibility of an extension for the second year and is available immediately.
