Subject: Hilbrandt scholarship awarded
The American Academy of Bookbinding is pleased to announce two recipients for the Roberta Hilbrandt Scholarship for 2012. Katy Baum, currently from North Carolina, spent years as a Cataloging and Periodicals Librarian before initiating the pursuit of her life's dream. She has spent two eight week sessions at Penland School of Crafts and, as a recipient of the scholarship, will continue her pursuit with AAB studying with Monique Lallier in Summerfield, NC this summer. Sharalee Howard from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, first came to AAB in the fall of 2011. Sharalee is largely self taught in the book arts creating fun and unique projects for her family and local school children. She has guided class projects to raise funds for charities all over the world and regularly donates books for non-profit auctions. Sharalee will continue her studies with Don Glaister at AAB in Telluride, CO this spring. The Roberta Hilbrandt Scholarship fund is supported by the friends and family of Roberta in memory and recognition of her love of the book arts and of lifelong learning. The scholarship is awarded annually to cover tuition for a two-week course at the American Academy of Bookbinding. The Academy and all the recipients since its inception in 2009, are grateful for this amazing gift to the world of bookbinding.
