Subject: Seminar on cleaning acrylic emulsion paints
"Cleaning Acrylic Emulsion Paints" A 2-Day seminar and workshop With Dr. Bronwyn Ormsby Senior Conservation Scientist Tate, London Inp 150 avenue du President Wilson 93210 Saint Denis, France 15-16 May 2012 This workshop, presented by Dr. Bronwyn Ormsby, will inform conservators about several important aspects relevant to the conservation of emulsion (dispersion) painted works of art Presentations will include an overview of artists' use, formulation and chemistry of acrylic paints and a summary of the scientific research carried out over the past few years into the effects of conservation treatments. Research into novel and potential wet-cleaning systems will also be presented and brought together for evaluation in practical sessions across two afternoons. In the practical sessions, conservators will evaluate the cleaning efficacy of several established and novel cleaning systems on provided artificially soiled samples and small sections taken from test paintings. Participants will receive a bibliography, handouts of the lectures, guides to practical tools, results tables and other relevant information. Participants are welcome to bring test samples of their own to use during the afternoon practical sessions, however soiled samples will be provided.
