Ship-Keeping Manager
Royal Museums Greenwich
London

UKP30,000 - UKP35,000

It's taken more than five years and UKP50 million. Now, following
this major conservation project, we are preparing to unveil the
Cutty Sark in its spectacular new surroundings this spring. Within a
stunning glass structure, we'll tell the story of the world's last
remaining tea clipper, creating a unique and inspiring experience
for everyone who visits her.

Your role is key to the ship's future as you take responsibility for
its day-to-day preservation and maintenance. In line with the
overall Preservation Management Plan, you will oversee a small team
of technicians and volunteers, supervise contractors, prepare
maintenance specifications and resolve technical issues. In
addition, we need you to train ship-keeping staff, contribute to the
development of a long-term maintenance plan and ensure the highest
Health and Safety standards.

Along with a relevant technical or engineering qualification, you
will need to demonstrate how your experience equips you to look
after a rigged historic ship. Strong communication, team leadership
and contract management skills are also important, as well as a good
working knowledge of materials science (particularly iron corrosion)
and a 'hands on' approach.
