We are very pleased to announce that Barbara Hassel will present an
intensive 5 day course on The History of Leather Bindings. This
course covers all the essential information required to understand
and identify books from the various historical periods. The
practical "hands-on" work will concentrate mainly on the making of
historical model books which can later be used as your personal
reference library.

Course description: What are the characteristic features of leather
bindings over the centuries? From a 3rd century Coptic codex to a
20th century leather binding many structural features have changed.
We will be looking at the historic development of the Western codex
