Conservator - Objects - Organic Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar Full Time Permanent We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced candidate in broad knowledge and demonstrated ability in the conservation of organic materials (leather, wood, fibers), the ability to manage budgets and projects, and effective oral and written communication skills. Master's Degree in Conservation from an internationally recognized program plus minimum 5 years experience in an institutional setting. Technical knowledge with instrumentation and testing as required for treatments and research Experience with storage and exhibition of collections Job responsibility: The Conservator is responsible for object treatments, conservation assessments, daily operations, staff training, technical advice and environmental monitoring for a diverse range of collections. He/she contributes to the ongoing development of temporary and permanent laboratories at the new National Museum of Qatar. The Conservator will execute all conservation activities adhering to internationally recognized guidelines for standards and practices. Reporting to the Chief Conservator, this position requires collaboration with Conservation, Curatorial, Collections Management and Exhibition teams to produce temporary and core exhibitions for the new museum. The Conservator will assist with the development of guidelines, policies and procedures relevant to the collections, disaster planning and response strategies and the management of assigned projects. Initially he/she will work with a team consisting of three staff conservators as well as consulting conservators and supervise technicians and interns. Active participation in the development and delivery of training opportunities for Qatari conservation assistants and students is required. The Conservator may conduct general and object-specific research as assigned. Presentation and publication of such research shall be for the purpose of raising awareness of museum conservation issues in Qatar. The Conservator will maintain professional relationships with other institutions both regionally and internationally and participate in professional development opportunities.
