Conservation Centre Vejle, Denmark

Full time (37 h/w), six month maternity cover with possibility of
extension.

Salary dependent upon qualifications.

The Conservation Centre Vejle is an independent institution, which
primarily undertakes conservation for seven regional museums with
mixed collections, but does also carry out projects for private
clients. The Centre currently employs eight full time conservators
specializing in textile, objects, paper, paintings, sculptures and
archaeological conservation, additional staff on fixed term
projects, and one administrative person.

The Centre operates in collaboration with the Shared Storage
Facility, which is located at the same address and the two
institutions belong under the Centre for Preservation of Cultural
Heritage. The facilities for both institutions were erected in 2004,
and are currently expanding. The Shared Storage Facility houses
collections from 16 different museums and archives. Employees of the
Conservation Centre Vejle work closely together with museum and
archive staff towards creating the best possible storage environment
for the collections stored at the Shared Storage Facility.

Candidate Requirements We are looking for an enthusiastic and
committed individual, who can work independently, meet deadlines,
and is keen on developing existing skills and knowledge as well as
acquiring new ones. The successful candidate will be responsible for
the textile conservation lab and must have a degree from a
recognized textile conservation training program as well as
practical experience.

It is essential that the candidate has an interest in working with a
range of different museum professionals. This requires strong
interpersonal and organizational skills in addition to good oral and
written communication skills (either a Nordic language or fluent in
English).

Work Responsibilities

    Carry out examination, treatment, digital photo- and written
    documentation on a range of textile based objects

    Preparation of objects for exhibitions, packing, transport,
    including designing and making mounts.

    Participation in general conservation activities, preventive
    conservation, such as environmental monitoring, rehousing, and
    climate and collection surveys

    Developing and running workshops for museum professionals

    Complete proposals and estimates for private customers.

Work mainly takes place at the Conservation Centre, but might also
require participation on location at museums or off-sites with
private customers.

Appointment to commence: May 1, 2012 or by agreement.
