The Orientalist Museum contains of one of the most significant
collections of Orientalist art ever assembled in the world. The
Orientalist Museum collection consists of paintings, drawings,
prints, sculptures, books and examples of applied art by the most
popular artists of the 16th to 20th centuries. The variety of the
artworks gives the collection world heritage value and demonstrates
the appreciation of differences and similarities in European visions
of the Middle East.

Painting Conservator

    The Orientalist Museum is recruiting a full time painting
    conservator who is responsible for the physical care,
    preservation, and conservation treatment of easel paintings in
    the collection.

    Responsibilities:

        Examine and treat paintings within the Orientalist Museum's
        Collection.

        Provide full written and photographic documentation of
        treatments.

        Prepare condition assessments, conduct surveys, and provide
        other written reports as necessary.

        Prepare objects for exhibitions and loans including checking
        condition, organizing packing materials for transit,
        couriering, installing and de-installing if required.

        Monitor and assess the environmental conditions in storage
        and galleries.

        Organize, maintain, and manage the conservation laboratory.

        Train other museum staff involved in handling of the museum
        collection.

    Qualifications and experience: Master's degree from a recognized
    conservation program with a minimum of five years experience in
    painting conservation or equivalent combination of education and
    training. Thorough knowledge of conservation theory and
    practice, and materials science as it applies to easel
    paintings. Excellence in performing complex conservation
    treatments on a wide range of paintings. Excellent communication
    and organizational skills and demonstrated computer and related
    technology skills. Previous professional experience in the
    conservation of paintings working in an institutional setting.
