Introduction to the conservation field

Course is scheduled for the 2012 Spring semester in the Continuing
Education Program at Hunter College. The course will take place on
Mondays 6-8:30 pm pm starting February 27, 2012 and ending April 16,
2012.

While the theoretical part will take place at the Hunter College
Campus, the practical part will take place at my conservation studio
in Dumbo, Brooklyn.

This course will introduce to the contemporary theory of Painting
Conservation and Restoration. It is meant for art history students,
art dealers, collectors, scholars, and Students interested in
broadening their knowledge on Conservation and Restoration Theory
and Practice. A good Introductory Course for all those interested
into further pursuing a conservation education.

 It is scheduled for the summer semester in the Continuing Education
Program at Pratt Institute (Manhattan Campus) and Hunter College.
This Course doesn't provide certificate or credits.

The Course will provide:

 PART 1

1) Historical review of painting techniques with a focus on painting
on canvas.

2) Introduce and contrast the concepts of "conservation" and
"restoration," exploring their historical origins and theoretical
and practical developments, through literature and visual examples.

3) Code of Ethics

PART 2

Moving into a  "laboratory format" the course will offer actual
practice on mock-up paintings, plus the experience of performing
simple tasks on actual paintings. Students will learn techniques of
color integration and filling of losses that relate to the diverse
restoration approaches illustrated in Part 1, addressing different
mindsets behind these choices. An overview of basic relining
techniques, tear repair and strip lining also will be provided.
