The Huntington <URL:http://www.huntington.org> invites applications
for the position of Kemble Conservator.  Working as a member of the
Conservation team within the Preservation Department, the Kemble
Conservator works on the conservation treatment and housing of
designated works on paper and paintings on paper in the Kemble
Maritime collection.  The Huntington's Kemble collection is one of
the most extensive collections of maritime material in the country.
The conservation project work centers primarily on prints, drawings,
and watercolors, which depict subjects ranging from maritime history
and technological advances to steamship travel.  The Kemble
Conservator will report to the Head of Conservation.

Responsibilities:  The Kemble Conservator performs conservation
treatments for works of art and ephemera on paper.  The project will
include basic and complex paper conservation treatments.  Protective
enclosures will be designed and fabricated for paintings and works
on paper.  The Project Conservator will assess the needs of the
Maritime collection, produce written and photographic documentation
and order supplies for the project.

Qualifications and experience:   Master's degree with a focus in
paper conservation, plus three to five years professional experience
in conservation of library materials, working with rare and special
collections materials in an institutional setting.  Thorough
knowledge of conservation theory and practice, and materials science
as it applies to library and archival materials.  Excellence in
performing basic and complex paper conservation treatments as
demonstrated through a portfolio. Excellent communication and
organizational skills; demonstrated computer and related technology
skills.  Evidence of professional activity, most typically through
membership and participation in AIC.
