Textile Conservator Denver Art Museum The Denver Art Museum is seeking a full-time, assistant- or associate-level conservator to oversee the conservation needs of its textile collection. At this time, the museum is expanding its exhibit, storage and working spaces dedicated to textiles. The scope of this project will require working closely with the curator of textile arts. Funding for this position is guaranteed for five years with the intent of extending it permanently. The comprehensive holding of the Textile Art Department consists of more than 5,000 textiles, from ancient and archeological examples of pre-Columbian and Coptic textiles to contemporary art in fiber. The collection encompasses both flat textiles and costume items. Strengths of the collection include quilts, coverlets and samplers; Chinese costumes and textiles; substantial Indian and Indonesian holdings. In addition, there are 20,000 objects from the Native American Arts collection that contain textile components. The candidate should have a degree from a recognized conservation training program, or equivalent. A minimum of three years post-graduate experience is required. The conservator will perform conservation treatment of museum objects as assigned; review objects for acquisition and loan purposes; assure accuracy and completeness of records and reports; share laboratory management duties as assigned and promote the conservation department through research, lectures, professional publications and teaching. The conservator will report to the Director of Conservation. Sound work habits, personal initiative and organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
