Continuing Professional Development Courses West Dean College, Chichester, West Sussex, England <URL:http://www.westdean.org.uk> Identification of materials PC1202 12-15 March 2012 Course leader: Bob Child This course will look at a wide range of materials used in our historic and artistic past and see how they can be accurately identified using simple, non-costly means. The format of the course will be through lectures, demonstrations and of course hands-on practical sessions. The aim of the course is to allow participants to see and handle a wide variety of objects made from different materials. They will be encouraged to compare and contrast 'the real thing' from fakes, copies and imitations. Participants are encouraged to bring their own objects for discussion. Non-residential course fee: UKP381 Fully-inclusive residential course fee: From UKP516 Integrated pest management PC1205 28-31 May 2012 Course leader: David Pinniger This workshop will give guidance on how to deal with insect pest problems likely to be encountered in museums, collections, archives and historic houses. It will focus upon insects and the damage they cause, together with new information on the detection, monitoring and trapping of pests. The emphasis is on pest-prevention as the key to successful IPM, but will also evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of physical and chemical control measures.
