You might find aid in a talk in 1981.  This might be out of date
given the age of the report, but Janice Gray Armstrong and her
associates gave a talk at the 1981 AIC conference in Philadelphia on
a similar incident.  It was printed in full in the Preprints as "A
furnace puff-back: the unique problem of soot on objects and
costumes," pp. 10-19.
