Subject: Furnace puff back
My colleague, Sue Shutte at Ringwood Manor (Sloatsburg Road, Ringwood, NJ 07456 ) needs help. The site needs clean up assistance after a furnace puff back has coated the historic collections--paintings, furniture, carpeting, books, paper, costumes, as well as walls and crown moulding on the whole first floor. Over 5 rooms are affected. The soot and oil petroleum residue is everywhere. I have included the link for Ringwood so that members of the list can see the size and scope of this accident: <URL:http://www.ringwoodmanor.com/> Swue's contact information is listed at <URL:http://www.ringwoodmanor.com/contact.htm> If any conservators on the list have had experience or even better are in the area and can offer advice or assistance locating a clean up crew/ firm. I know that Sue has had contact with some specialists and is working with those professionals who have worked with the collections. I was asked to assist in offering guidance for the care of porous collections and the effects of the petroleum residue on the textiles, rugs, costumes, and paper.
