UCLA Mellon Education Resident Andrew W. Mellon Residency in Conservation Education University of California/Getty Program in Conservation of Archaeological and Ethnographic Materials (UCLA in Los Angeles, CA) is seeking a conservator or scientist to fill a new two year teaching residency, September 15 2012 through September 15, 2014 funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The residency offers exceptional professional development opportunities for future conservation educators. Successful candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in teaching and excellent communication skills. At least five years of work experience in conservation and/or science is preferred. Applicants should demonstrate specialization within the investigation and conservation of archaeological and/or ethnographic materials, with preference given to applicants focusing on organic materials. Responsibilities will include: Working closely with faculty mentors to develop materials and skills for teaching and select research projects Teaching within the graduate conservation core curriculum, elective graduate and undergraduate courses and seminars in the candidate's area of specialization Offering selected lectures (during the first year) and two to four-week teaching activities (during the second year) at partnering conservation programs in North America Co-organizing the professional activities of the April 2013 and 2014 Association of North American Graduate Programs in Conservation (ANAGPIC) meetings in Los Angeles and Buffalo, respectively. The resident will participate in developing the professional themes focusing on particular conservation education challenges Participation in a seminar at Buffalo State College on Philosophy and history of education, curriculum development, pedagogy and teaching techniques Participation in summer fieldwork or program development for summer 2013 or 2014, to be determined The fellowship will provide an annual stipend of $55,000 plus $ 6000 in a housing and transportation supplement and full benefits.
