The Centre will offer career and professional development courses
and workshops April - November 2012 on aspects of the preservation
and conservation of historic photographs. The Centre offers
conservators and other heritage professionals, specialist training
in this challenging field.

Preservation and Conservation of Photographic Materials
Ref: 100/1

    A seven-week Certificated career and professional development
    foundational course for experienced conservators and
    conservation students.

    16 April - 1 June 2012

Preservation and Conservation of Photographic Materials (Theory)
Ref: 100/2

    An intensive three-day course covering the identification,
    causes of degradation, conservation treatment options, handling,
    usage, exhibition and storage of photographic materials.

    10-12 April 2012

Identification of Historic Photographic Processes
Ref: 100/4

    An in-depth examination of the process and visual material and
    degradation characteristics necessary for the identification of
    historic photographic processes.

    23-25 April 2012

Master Class I - Advanced Photographic Conservation Techniques
Ref 100/5

    An intensive four-week workshop for experienced conservators
    introducing advanced practical skills and current knowledge and
    developments in the preservation and conservation of paper based
    photographic images. Preference will be given to past
    participants of The Centre's foundational "Certificated" course.

    11 June - 6 July 2012

Rediscovering Historic Photographic Processes
Ref: 100/7

    A five-day practical workshop providing the opportunity to
    relive the excitement experienced by the pioneers of photography
    combined with a user friendly grounding in photo-chemistry.
    Participants will develop further their aesthetic appreciation
    of early photography, increase their understanding of
    photo-chemistry and acquire the manipulative skills needed to
    produce historic photographic processes including the photogenic
    drawing, calotype, salted paper print, direct positive,
    cyanotype and the albumen print. Each participant produces a
    portfolio of unique images utilising each process undertaken.

    16-20 April 2012 or 16-20 July 2012

Master Class II - Going Deeper Ref:
100/5A

    In response to requests from previous Master Class I
    participants to go deeper, this four-week practical workshop is
    for experienced conservators to further develop advanced
    hands-on skills, knowledge and experience in the interventive
    conservation treatment of paper based photographic images.
    Preference will be given to past participants of The Centre's
    Master Class I Ref 100/5.

    10 September - 5 October 2012

Class sizes are small all participants receive a Handbook containing
notes and other related information.
