Assistant Conservator Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research (Laboratory Technician IV, Position #45000298) Position Description: The Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research is currently accepting applications for an assistant conservator to assist with the conservation of archaeological and historic objects housed within the State's collection. These objects are comprised of both organic and inorganic materials, and many were excavated from either maritime or terrestrial environments. The assistant conservator will work closely with the head conservator to clean, stabilize and finish archaeological materials; identify artifact types; monitor and maintain desalination tanks; document artifact treatments; and track object location and treatment information via department software. The successful applicant will hold a Bachelor's degree in conservation, anthropology, archaeology, art history, chemistry or a related field. Some experience in archaeological conservation is required, and familiarity with maritime conservation protocol and object identification is preferred. Good communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and manual dexterity are also highly desirable. Base minimum salary: $27,867 up to $32,000, commiserate with experience. Position is career service, and will include all State holidays, paid vacation and sick time, as well as full health benefit options. The conservation laboratory is located downtown Tallahassee, FL.
