Course Coordinator in Technical Art History Institute of Fine Arts, NYU The Conservation Center, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University (IFA/NYU), is pleased to announce a new part-time position in the field of technical art history, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The course coordinator will help organize and coordinate a new Summer Institute in Technical Art History for doctoral students in art history, to be held in early summer 2012 in New York City. The Summer Institute will offer a new and exciting professional development opportunity for PhD students from North American universities who wish to both increase their own basic literacy in the field of technical art history, and to integrate the subject into their own art historical research. The course coordinator's responsibilities will include: Working with faculty and staff at NYU to organize the Summer Institute, including assisting with the application and selection process for participants, the teaching schedules of faculty, and visits to museums, printing shops and foundries. Soliciting (from art historians, conservators and conservation scientists, art museums and other sources) and assembling curricular materials for use in the Summer Institute (including technical art history case studies, course readings and reading lists, digital images of exemplary visual materials) and preparing materials for practical, hands-on exercises; Attending and assisting with the successful execution of the course (full time presence required during the workshop itself) Editing curricular content for web presentation, for later use by the IFA; Drafting a summary report on the development and evaluation of the Summer Institute for grant reporting purposes and for presentation and publication to a wider audience. Interested applicants should be recent graduates from, or advanced candidates in, a North American graduate program in art history or art conservation (MA or PhD level). Strong interest in technical art history is essential. The course coordinator will be in residence part-time at the IFA from March 15- August 1, 2012.
