Course Coordinator in Technical Art History
Institute of Fine Arts, NYU

The Conservation Center, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University
(IFA/NYU), is pleased to announce a new part-time position in the
field of technical art history, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon
Foundation. The course coordinator will help organize and coordinate
a new Summer Institute in Technical Art History for doctoral
students in art history, to be held in early summer 2012 in New York
City. The Summer Institute will offer a new and exciting
professional development opportunity for PhD students from North
American universities who wish to both increase their own basic
literacy in the field of technical art history, and to integrate the
subject into their own art historical research.

The course coordinator's responsibilities will include:

    Working with faculty and staff at NYU to organize the Summer
    Institute, including assisting with the application and
    selection process for participants, the teaching schedules of
    faculty, and visits to museums, printing shops and foundries.

    Soliciting (from art historians, conservators and conservation
    scientists, art museums and other sources) and assembling
    curricular materials for use in the Summer Institute (including
    technical art history case studies, course readings and reading
    lists, digital images of exemplary visual materials) and
    preparing materials for practical, hands-on exercises;

    Attending and assisting with the successful execution of the
    course (full time presence required during the workshop itself)

    Editing curricular content for web presentation, for later use
    by the IFA;

    Drafting a summary report on the development and evaluation of
    the Summer Institute for grant reporting purposes and for
    presentation and publication to a wider audience.

Interested applicants should be recent graduates from, or advanced
candidates in, a North American graduate program in art history or
art conservation (MA or PhD level). Strong interest in technical art
history is essential. The course coordinator will be in residence
part-time at the IFA from March 15- August 1, 2012.

New York University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action
employer.
