Subject: Assessing state of working objects using tribology
The University of Applied Science in Conservation-restoration in Neuchatel (Switzerland) and its research department wants to start a new scientific project in the field of technical heritage. The purpose is to use the knowledge in tribology--science of friction, lubrication and wear--to describe the functional state of a working objects, like kinetic art or technical objects. That can help the conservator to describe the state of technical parts in function. It can be a useful tool to understand and recognize degradation traces caused by the function of a technical object. This research can help professionals to establish science-based recommendations regarding to the ability of a working object to fulfill, or not, his function. To prepare this project, I'm looking for publications, thesis or other information about the friction, lubrication and wear of working heritage.
