In the Royal Collection some of the earliest of these marks are paper labels applied in 1639 by Abraham van der Doort, Charles I's Surveyor. He was the first person to record and document the king's growing art collection. Other early marks include wax seals denoting provenance, up to more recent exhibition labels. Many of these marks will be illustrated during the talk, as well as others from decorative works of art. Christopher Stevens is Superintendent of the Royal Collection, Hampton Court Palace, responsible for all works of art there and at Kew Palace. He is also head of the 14 strong Salvage Team making his job, effectively, a 24 hour one, especially as he lives on site to facilitate the position. He joined the Royal collection in 1998 before which he worked as a Production Engineer in the Defence Industry. *** Conservation DistList Instance 25:29 Distributed: Sunday, December 18, 2011 Message Id: cdl-25-29-010 ***Received on Tuesday, 13 December, 2011
