Musical Instrument Conservation Technician The Cincinnati Art Museum Full time, temporary position The Cincinnati Art Museum has an opening for a full-time temporary Conservation Technician position working in the Conservation Department in preparation for the exhibition The Art of Sound: Four Centuries of Musical Instruments. The position is for 7 months beginning January 2012. Responsibilities: The Musical Instrument Conservation Technician will work under the direction of the Associate Conservator of Objects and in collaboration with the Curator of Decorative Arts. The technician will be responsible for writing condition reports, completing documentation photography, building storage mounts, and carrying out minor treatments. The technician will also aid the conservator as necessary with other projects relating to the treatment, display and proper storage of the musical instrument collection. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university and at least one year prior experience working within a conservation lab or museum environment including previous experience handling works of art and basic knowledge of conservation science. Candidates must be able to work efficiently, accurately, and possess the ability to handle fragile objects with care. Candidates must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, handle tools, and work standing for long periods of time. Candidates should possess excellent organizational abilities, strong computer and writing skills, experience with photography, and the ability to work collaboratively with others toward the achievement of common goals. Candidates should be able to work well as part of a team and in an independent manner.
