Core samples

We have taken 3 inch (diameter) core samples from a marble structure
to access a concealed gutter system built into a cornice.  The
gutter provides drainage for any water that might enter through the
mortar joints of the veneer panels of the dome above.  After
examining the gutter, we would now like to re-install the top
portion of the cores in a manner that will allow us to remove them
again at a later date if necessary.  Has anybody designed such a
connection?
